Chosen Solution
Turn the phone off and on via power button slide to turn off (this alone should get it working). If that does not work then try resetting network settings, update iPhone via iTunes. Otherwise unplug battery after turning off and plug it in again and plug in home button cable, whichever is more convenient for you. Just make sure after replugging the battery that the home button cable is plugged in before you turn the iPhone on. Last resort is to restore the iPhone via iTunes. For all I know it could be a partially teared home button cable.
